Flight Instructor

Flight instructors are responsible for teaching, supervising, and evaluating student pilot applicants. The flight instructor must track individual student progress, keep students accountable, and coordinate with the chief flight instructor concerning student enrollments and graduations. It is the responsibility of the flight instructor to ensure safe practices, regulatory compliance, and professionalism are upheld both for themselves and their students.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

NOTE: Blue River Aviation may unilaterally change the requirements of this job description at any time. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Utilize the IACRA online portal to issue student pilot certificates and recommend eligible applicants for the appropriate FAA practical exam
  • Enroll students for the appropriate course using Blue River Aviation’s flight training software, track individual student progress, and maintain detailed notes and observations concerning student performance
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures, including the employee handbook and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Report to the chief flight instructor
  • Attend monthly flight instructor meetings
  • Provide instruction for, but not limited to, the following courses [courses taught are dependent upon privileges of instructor certificate held]:
  • Private Pilot (ASEL)
  • Instrument Airplane (ASEL)
  • Commercial Pilot (ASEL)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the chief flight instructor
Required Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Possess a valid and current Certified Flight Instructor Certificate with the following:
  • Airplane Single Engine
  • Instrument Airplane
  • Possesses either a First-, Second-, or Third-Class medical certificate, or BasicMed.
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Current and proficient for single engine and instrument operations
