Alaska’s State Training & Employment Program (STEP)

Alaska’s State Training and Employment Program (STEP) Grant offers financial assistance for flight training, but it’s not explicitly focused on aviation. The STEP Grant, managed by the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development, provides funding for training in various industries to help Alaskans gain employment or improve their skills.

To be eligible for a STEP Grant:

  • Alaska Residency: You must be a resident of Alaska.
  • Work History: You must have a work history contributing to the state’s Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund within the past five years.
  • Training Needs: You must already be a rated pilot, actively engaged in flight training, with a minimum of 220 hours, and pursuing a full-time career as a pilot. You must also be able to prove to the state that the training for which you are requesting funding will directly increase your chances of gaining employment.
  • Approved Training: The training program must be approved by STEP. Blue River Aviation is already an approved vendor and eligible to receive STEP Funding.

For more information on the STEP Grant or to apply, contact your local Alaska Job Center.
